With coordination between the government departments of China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), the China-DPRK cross-border land mail route (Dandong-Sinuiju) was officially restored on September 25. Its resumption will further facilitate mail exchanges between the two peoples.
At 8:05 am on September 25, the first mail truck departed from Dandong Office of Exchange in Liaoning province, China, for Sinuiju, DPRK. With the whole journey running smoothly for about six hours, it successfully transported 504 bags (pieces) of mail weighing 2,320 kg.
The resumption of the “Dandong-Sinuiju” mail route ushers in a new starting point for China-DPRK communications and cooperation and bears far-reaching significance for people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. In terms of logistics services, the route has restored the postal artery connecting China and the DPRK, and significantly enhanced China Post’s network capacity to serve the neighboring countries and regions, providing a stable channel for mail transportation between the two countries. In terms of public services, this route, covering four categories of products including EMS, parcel-post, China Express and cross-border e-commerce, precisely targets such customer groups as overseas Chinese in the DPRK, DPRK nationals in China and border residents of both countries, to meet their needs for cross-border mail services. According to Dandong Postal Branch, the resumption of the route was made possible thanks to the support and assistance from authorities including Dandong Postal Administration, Dandong Customs District, Dandong Border Management Detachment and the Border Inspection Station of Dandong port.
