In recent years, China Post has resolutely shouldered the banner of the “national team” of the industry, effectively supported China’s most fundamental interests, actively served the “dual circulation” development pattern, and played an important role in accelerating the construction of an independent, secure and controllable international express and logistics system, supporting the development of cross-border e-commerce, and helping relieve the stranglehold on international logistics. It has reached more airports, opened new air routes, and laid out new plans to accelerate the development of its international air network. So far, it has successively opened two intercontinental air routes, effectively shortening the overall time limit for the Europe-bound mail and cargo from China. At the same time, it has smoothed out its overseas flight transshipment mode, and further expanded its network coverage to North America, South America and other regions, thereby enabling its leap from regional autonomy to global connectivity. As a result, China Post has successfully developed a secure, reliable and independently controllable international logistics supply chain system, and significantly improved the capabilities of serving high-end manufacturing industry and cross-border e-commerce, winning full recognition from China’s manufacturing enterprises going global and cross-border e-commerce clients. Gradually, it has become a staunch force in smoothing the “dual circulation” of domestic and international markets.
In 2023, with the strong support of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Aviation Administration of China, China Post successfully introduced two new B777F wide-body freighters. These intercontinental freighters with a commercial payload of over 100 tonnes have contributed to the crucial strategic move of China Post, indicating a major breakthrough in building its independently controllable international air transport capacity.
Taking this as a starting point, China Post has accelerated the construction of its international air network. On June 26, 2024, China Post successfully opened the first intercontinental air route from Nanjing to Luxembourg. On June 23, 2025, it opened the second intercontinental air route from Zhengzhou to Luxembourg. The successive opening of these two routes has effectively reduced the overall time limit for the Europe-bound mail and cargo from China, hence becoming the important measure of China Post to build a secure, reliable and independently controllable international logistics supply chain system and serve the construction of the “dual circulation” development pattern.
Building a secure, reliable and independently controllable international logistics supply chain system is a long-term systematic and strategic project. With newly-reached airports, new air routes and new plans, China Post is building a resilient global logistics supply chain with firm and rapid pace.
In recent years, China Postal Airlines has continuously expanded its network coverage in neighboring Asian countries and regions such as Japan, South Korea and Thailand. With “Quanzhou-Clark” and “Guangzhou-Clark” air routes successively opened in the first half of this year, China Post now has four air cargo and mail routes reaching the Philippines in its independent aviation network. At the same time, it has increased the frequency of the intercontinental flights to Luxembourg, with the outbound flights fully loaded and the inbound load exceeding the industry level. The following statistics explicitly demonstrates the capabilities and dynamics of China Post in building its international air network. Since the second half of 2024, China Postal Airlines has increased its international destinations to eight overseas airports, and opened 12 new international air routes, with the total number of independently operated international (regional) air routes increasing to 29. Moreover, China Post has established its overseas flight transshipment mode. Its network has covered 36 European countries via combined truck transportation, and further expanded the coverage to North America, South America and other regions via the air-air through transport mode in cooperation with other international airlines, making a significant step forward from regional autonomy to global connectivity.
With the gradual improvement of the international independent air network of China Postal Airlines, China Post has greatly enhanced its capabilities of serving high-end manufacturing and cross-border e-commerce. In Zhejiang, Yiwu Postal Branch actively responded to the transportation needs of a local state-owned enterprise and some cross-border e-commerce enterprises. Taking into account the fact that China Postal Airlines’ flights operating “Yiwu-Osaka” air routes can increase their reuse rate by parking in Yiwu, China Post opened a round-trip air cargo and mail route from Yiwu to Manila, the Philippines on July 16, 2024, after optimizing the operating cost calculation, and enabled regular operation of the route with four flights per week, therefore well meeting the air freight needs of the local cross-border e-commerce enterprises. In Guangdong, the International Business Company of Guangdong Postal Branch has carried out consignment business in cooperation with freight space partners and platform enterprises, to transport express items for well-known cross-border e-commerce platforms. Based on customers’ demands, the “Guangzhou-Dhaka” air route, which opened on March 26 this year, has increased its frequency from two flights a week to four flights a week since July 13. In Henan, the “Zhengzhou-Luxembourg” intercontinental air route mainly consigns international mail, independently operated commercial parcels and express items from top e-commerce platforms and well-known cross-border e-commerce platforms, thus winning full recognition from manufacturing enterprises going global and cross-border e-commerce clients.
