THE POSTAL SERVICE: AN OMNIPRESENCE
As an effective means for postal communications
to be transformed into social benefits and economic returns, the postal service
naturally has service as its most important mandate. Persistent in the principles
of a people's post and telecommunication service must serve the people ,the
postal service sector has always spared little effort in building up both a
qualified staff and facilities. Sticking to the industrial motto of fast,
accurate, secure and convenient service, the service has been actively nurturing
business growth and providing all possible service to the community.
In large and medium cities, county seats towns and villages in the developed coastal areas, the Postal Service has focused on the construction of offices and their hardware upgrading, uplifting service levels, installing advanced equipment, bettering serving environments, and improving service quality. Meanwhile, in view of the vastness and the unbalanced economic and cultural development, the Postal Service has developed various joint, commissioned, and cooperative postal agencies with local governments and other community entities.
By far, the total number of post offices in China has increased from 50,000 in 1980 to 84,000 in 1998, with outlets of other nature or management also on the rise. Now the postal service has made its way to communities, institutions, schools, universities, malls and stores, restaurants, hotels, office towers factories, villages, mountains forests, snow plateaus, frontier outposts-all quarters and corners where there are people. In other words, where there are people, there are footprints of the mailman.
Postal staff members are doing every effort to meet the needs of customers. They actively adopt various measures to make services convenient for their clients, improving service level and quality wherever possible. Perhaps the field mailmen merit a special remark of appreciation here for their tough job. They go out early and come back late. Many of them have to crawl up mountain paths and ford streams before delivering a piece of mail. Despite uncountable difficulties, they always fulfill their tasks. As an appreciation for their services, many mailmen, operators, escorts and other postal workers have been awarded titles such as "advanced workers" and "model workers".
In the postal industry, the are frequent contests, competition, and other events among all postal staff members for outstanding work methods, high quality services, and demonstrations of mastery of particular work skills. With the qualification system of requiring every worker to implemented, the postal service is now entering a new era where they will offer new products, and provide standardized and quality-committed services to all clientele.
