The Opening
Ceremony
The opening ceremony of the 22nd UPU Congress will be
held in the Great Hall of the People on the morning of August 23, 1999. Being the venue
for important national political and social activities, the Great Hall of the People is
also the place where the senior state leaders meet foreign VIPs and the center for
international friendly exchanges. The whole structure is magnificent in design and rich in
national characteristics. When the Congress opens, the state leaders of China. the invited
VIPs, delegates and their spouses, staff of the Congress Secretariat and the Chinese
Secretariat will be there to witness this historic event.
Invitations to the opening ceremony will be distributed during
registration. All the delegates are requested to bring the invitation and wear the
Congress badge to attend the opening ceremony.
Airport
Arrival Service
For the duration of the Congress, a special delegate reception
service will be available at the Beijing Capital international Airport. The Congress
guides will help you go through the entry process, the Customs inspection, and send you to
your hotel. However, we encourage you to make the Beijing Capital international Airport
your port of entry as it will be the only international gateway where uniformed
Congress guides will be available at your service. 
In other entry airports of China (such as Guangzhou, Shanghai,
Xiamen, Urumqi), there will also be special delegate reception service. If you notify the
Chinese Secretariat of your an.ival plan, we can make available postal employees to assist
you with connecting flights and your entry process.
To make sure you will be picked up at the airport, please inform
the Chinese Secretariat of your arrival time in advance. The Arrival information Form
(Form--C) will be sent to all the participants. Please complete the form and send it
to the address specified by the Chinese Secretariat no later than four weeks prior
to your arrival.
Accompanying persons are recommended to arrive with the delegates
at the same time. If it is impossible, please inform us of the arrival time
beforehand so that reception service for the accompanying persons can be arranged.
