Time and Place of the Congress

The 22nd UPU Congress will be held from August 23 to September 15, 1999 at Beijing International Convention Center, the People's Republic of China.

Congress Venue

124.jpg (13807 ×Ö½Ú)Beijing international Convention Center (BICC) is located in the Asian Games Village endowed with a comfortable and beautiful environment. Facing the National Olympic Sports Center in the south, it is 9 km from Tian An Men Square which is the city center, 20 km from Beijing Capital international Airport to the east, and 12 km from the Summer Palace to the west. It is surrounded by Beijing Continental Grand Hotel, CATIC Hotel, Beijing Recreation Center, North Star Shopping Center and Hong Kong Food City. It is a large-scale commercial and convention center, offering integrated conference, exhibition, office, food, hotel, recreational and shopping facilities. In recent years, conferences such as the 4th WOrld Conttrence on WOmen of the United Nations, 13th World Archive Conference, 96th inter--Parliamefltary Conference and 23rd General Conference of international Union of Scientific Studies on Population etc. were held here successfully. 

The  first, second, third and fifth floors of BICC, with the total area of over 15,000 m2 will be used by the UPU Congress. The registration center, pigeon holes. delegation offices and the offices of the international Bureau will be located on the first tloor. The plenary session hall, committee meeting rooms, document center and rooms tar smallscale exhibitions will be set on the second floor. On the third floor there will be seven small meeting rooms each with a seating capacity ranging tyom 20 -- 170 people and foe offices for the Chinese Secretariat. The fifth floor will be occupied by the ot't'ices of foe Chairman of the Congress, the Doyen, the Secretary -- General, Deputy Secretary3eneral and Assistant Directors--General of the UPU International Bureau. Information counter will be available on each floor, and some other facilities such as a post office and a bank can be found on the first floor.

In addition, the offices on the eighth floor of BICC are reserved for the Chinese Secretariat from July, 1997 till the end of the  Congress.
