Work of the Trade Union

In 2003, focusing on improving the quality of employees, trade unions at all levels within the national postal system held various activities, such as the educational campaign with “Development and Innovation” as the theme, the “Building Knowledge-based Postal Organizations and Encouraging Knowledge-typed Postal Workers”, “Granting Good Books to Model Postal Workers” and “Showing Care by Granting Good Books” activities, solicitude and greetings to the outstanding postal collectives and individuals in fighting SARS, the “Essay Contest”, “Knowledge Contest” and the first “Post Cup Singing Contest” of China Post. The postal trade unions also organized various contests on raising the efficiency and profitability of the postal system and held training programs on the electronic remittance business among the employees, which have greatly encouraged the staff to keep learning, innovating and competing and make contributions to the sustainable development of China Post. In 2003 there were 13 collectives winning the “National May 1 Labor Certificate” and 9 individuals receiving the ” National Labor Day Medal”. A large number of units and individuals received the title of Pioneer Unit of Cultural Civilization Construction.

The building of grassroots democracy in postal enterprises progressed steadily. Postal enterprises continued to improve the employees’ congress system and the system of collective contract through equal negotiation. China Post raised the transparency of business affairs, which facilitated employees’ participation in the decision-making and operational activities. The enthusiasm of the management and the staff of postal enterprises were encouraged and the management and profits of postal enterprises kept rising. The right to information and the entrepreneurship of employees were promoted, and grassroots democracy was enhanced. A large number of post bureaus, such as Beijing Postal Administration, Sichuan Provincial Post Bureau, Hunan Provincial Post Bureau, Quanzhou City Post Bureau of Fujian Province, Huangshan City Post Bureau of Anhui Province, Shaoyang City Post Bureau of Hunan Province and Dengmai County Post Bureau of Hainan Province were awarded the title of “National Model Unit in Raising Business Transparency”.
