Universal Postal Service

China is the largest developing country in the world with a vast area and a big population, which brings about the different economic development levels in the eastern, central and western areas. Therefore, it is a tough task to fulfill the universal postal service with the high cost. In 2002, supported by the Party committee and the government at all levels, China Post overcome difficulties and took a series of effective measures. We accelerated the delivery, improved the service quality and earnestly performed the universal service obligation. There are 76 thousand post offices and service stations throughout China, among which 58 thousand are in rural areas. There are also 240 thousand groups of post boxes. The number of post routes reaches 21 thousand extending the one-way routes to 2.976 million km. China Post has established a powerful network, which covers the urban and rural areas and reaches the foreign countries. Confronted with the drastic competition in the market, China Post still persists in the low, uniform postage, provides universal postal service to all the citizens, delivers letters of compulsory servicemen and the literature for the blind for free, so as to guarantee that the mass can fully enjoy the communication right entitled in the constitution.
