In 2001, EMS volume climbed to 126.527 million pieces, up 14.7% compared with last year among which, international mail business accounts for 4.211 million pieces, up 6.6% over last year; domestic mail business 108.635 million pieces, up 12.8% over last year;
intra-city business 13.68 million pieces, up 35.6% over last year. Revenue for EMS nationally increased by 15.39% growing to 4.99355 billion yuan, among which international business reaches 1.07192 billion yuan, up 2.72% against last year; domestic business 3.14621 billion
yuan, up 11.80% against last year; domestic intra-city products 195.26 million yuan, up
79.50% against last year; other businesses 580.16 million yuan, up 60.74% against last year. The operating revenue vs. expenditure gap of the whole industry reached 1.03154 billion yuan, up
167.49% against last year.
In 2001, China Post has launched an array of programs to promote the growth of both
international and domestic EMS services including shortening the delivery time, developing big customers, providing " one-stop" service, opening new services, etc. What is especially worth noting is that after opening International Economy Express service, China Post has remarkably improved its processing capacity in dealing with bulk mail and heavy items. Average weight for International Economy Express items increased from 1.7 kg to 3.8 kg. To support the task of speeding up the trunk network efficiency , China Post EMS has
enhanced end-to-end service quality. Both customer and business mail are delivered to the addressee, which were in
the past only delivered to the gate. Meanwhile, China Post EMS intensely promotes night delivery by mandating
that night delivery service have to be available in 50 designated cities. In addition to consolidating and developing core business, China EMS has actively introduced EMS Etiquette service, certificate and invoice services, exhibition logistics fulfillment services as well as
other new services and value-added services. The number of post offices providing online EMS service has reached 1185 and revenue has achieved 177 million yuan. Taking advantage of
the extensive air transportation network of China Post Airline, China Post has initiated a series of activities such as establishing a fresh-f1ower base in Yunnan Province, opening etiquette service between mainland and Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, to enter the exhibition logistics fulfillment market, China Post EMS has provided end-to-end logistics service for Panalpina throughout its
Triumph's Dreams on Stage China Tour, a promotion for its underwear products.
The program has been enlisted in the Guinness World Records for its geographic coverage in such a short period of time.
Express Remittance, Cash Delivery services have enjoyed a sound rapid development too. To support the postal electronic money order business, China Post EMS provides money delivery service which speeds up the capital transfers and has obtained favorable remarks from the customers. In addition to such services as ID delivery, legal document delivery, passport delivery, higher education admission notice delivery, tax return application delivery, statistics material and balance sheets delivery services, some post offices has further expanded their product portfolio by opening such new services as insurance document delivery, administrative document delivery services. Cash on delivery service (COD) further expands its coverage by interconnecting another 50 business customers and has become available in 1200 post offices. COD doubled its revenue over that of last year, collecting 180 million yuan through distributing more than 300,000 items and generating 18 million yuan in revenue.
