International Cooperation
In 2000, the international services of China Post were greatly developed. The business turnover from the delivery of both correspondences and parcels was increased by 13.5% totally.
In 2000, China Post expanded the SAL range of the delivery of parcels: parcels to Canada, South Korea and Cuba could all be mailed by SAL; China Post also opened SAL from China to Japan, USA, Canada, Australia, Brazil and South Korea in correspondence delivery; The network for mailing international post was further optimized with the establishment of three international post exchange offices in Xi'an, Yanji and Suzhou and of the Nanjing international post exchange station. Thus the number of exchange offices and stations reached 46 and 41 respectively; we completed the revision of International Post Service Standards, which would be carried out since January 1st, 2001.
In 2000, China Post expanded the exchange with other administrations and enhanced the mutual understanding and cooperative relationship through mutual visits of high-ranking officials. High ranking leaders of China Post visited the USA, Australia, Italy, Turkey, Iran and some other foreign states conducting exchanges on common interests such as postal restructure, universal postal service, legal status of the post, postal financial service, IT, marketing and the promotion of the cooperative relationship between both sides. After the first postal summit between China, Japan and South Korea was held in Japan, the three participants reached common understanding on exchange service and mutual cooperation. Responding to the invitation of SRB, 20 postal delegations from Cuba, DPRK, Japan and South Korea visited China.
In 2000, China Post took an active part in activities held by international postal organizations like the UPU. Invited by the International Bureau, UPU, Mr. Liu Liqing, Postmaster General of State Post Bureau attended the Strategic Forum, UPU and gave a lecture titled China Post in the 21 Century. 2000 was the first year that China acts as the chairman state of Council of Administration, UPU. During the eight regular meetings presided by China, especially on the annual meeting of CA, we succeeded in erecting the prestige for acting as the chairman state of CA, UPU, raising the status of China Post in participating the international postal affairs and enlarging the influence of China Post in the field of global post. China Post also took part in the 12 different meetings of UPU, APPU, FIP, Government of Postage Stamp Printers Conference and World Saving Bank Institution.
In 2000, the State Post Bureau convened the first state national meeting on foreign affairs for working out the basic blueprint to deal with international relations and cooperation and the contents and objectives of China Post in this field.
In 2000, China Post was engaged in conducting bilateral and multilateral practical cooperation. China Post actively developed the cooperative relationship with postal administrations of other countries, broadened channels for international cooperation, followed the trend of the global post development, strived to improve the international postal service and basically built up a new omnibearing, multilevel and diversified forms of cooperative style with other countries.
